For me it's PowerCraft and RedPower2.

I suppose you could think of it as a vastly simplified, but still very appealing version of mods like Industrialcraft and Buildcraft. Like those mods, Powercraft adds new blocks/entities/tools that allow you to industrialize your worlds without dozens of new ore/log/etc blocks needing to be generated in the world. It also lacks the countless complex series of crafting recipes and confusing processes needed to make things work.

It would take a while to describe each of the features, but they're all really simple to figure out and use. The mod itself adds things like conveyer belts, elevator tubes, blocks that automatically harvest trees/crops or replant them, and even entire redstone logic gates compressed into a single easy to craft block. Some of the more interesting features would be lasers for detecting movement, sending redstone signals or even killing entities that touch them (including the player). These can be fun to play with since there are colorful crystals generated near bedrock that you can color/lengthen the lasers with, and also mirrors/prisms for redirecting the beams.

Perhaps the funnest part of the mod is a craftable bulldozer type vehicle that can be upgraded with crystals and controlled manually with configurable buttons on the keyboard or programmed to do a certain task with a fairly simple script in it's interface.

That sounds really cool! Adding a lot of stuff without the complexity is nice. I'll give it a try
